In the ballastic pendulum, a moving object (the bullet) undergoes a completely inelastic collision with an object hanging from a string. The kinetic energy of the bullet is converted into kinetic energy of the combined block/bullet system. The combined system them moves to the right and upward, rising to its maximum height when all the kinetic energy is converted to potential energy.
